Windward Animal Hospital has offered a low-cost spay and neuter program for rabbits for several years. As most rabbit owners know, rabbit surgery is a costly procedure with spays and neuters usually costing hundreds of dollars. More importantly, due to the delicate nature and special needs of rabbits, it is of the utmost importance that a veterinarian with extensive experience with rabbits performs the procedure.

Dr. Colby from the Windward Animal Hospital has been entrusted to the care of rabbits throughout the State and one of the leading veterinarians for the Georgia House Rabbit Society, a rabbit rescue and shelter located in Cobb County.

We’re happy to offer this program and have procedures in place to where we can treat so many bunnies in a short amount of time. We know how fragile they are and as this day can be hectic with up to 25-30+ at a time coming in to be neutered and spayed our focus will be completely on caring for your bunny babies in the most efficient way as possible.

When you arrive your carrier will be tagged with your bunny’s info and will be taken to the back to get treated. You’ll get a copy of the discharge form when you’re leaving with your rabbit(s). We strive to get everyone in, your bunny treated, and on your way well informed of the aftercare in the most efficient and effective way as possible.

LOW-COST DAY IS BUSY & HECTIC!!!! Please know we are not ignoring you or intentionally being dismissive during this time. We are just focused on ensuring we are doing everything needed for your bunny.  Please understand questions may have to wait until discharge time or feel free to call the day before with any concerns as we want our bunny parents to be at ease as much as possible before surgery. Georgia House Rabbit Society (GHRS) and Medivet are great resources for information.

• PLEASE DO NOT stop feeding or giving water to your bunny before surgery.
• Have/Purchase a Heating Pad without an auto shut-off. You need one that will stay on until you turn it off.

Arrival Window is between 8:00am – 8:30am. We understand traffic can be a hassle, because of this there is a 15 minute grace period. After that time, you will have to reschedule as lateness interferes with other scheduled appointments on our calendar. 

Bring your rabbit(s) in a carrier/small kennel, no boxes unless it is one made for pets and cages need to be able to be easily carried by one person. ABSOLUTELY NO COOLERS, LAUNDRY BASKETS, OR ANYTHING WITHOUT A COVER. Please put a small amount of hay in the kennel for your bunny to munch on while waiting for treatment in the back

When you arrive your carrier holding your bunny will be tagged with your bunny’s info and will be taken to the back waiting for the procedure.

PLEASE NOTE: It is not recommended you leave your bunny for the day, it is important he/she gets back to his/her own environment as soon as possible! Once he/she is up and alert he/she will be brought up front and you will be on your way!

All bunnies will be ready to go by 11:00am- 11:30am. Please be back in the office by 11:30am to avoid additional charges. You are welcome to drop off the night before the surgery between 8-5pm. There is a $25 boarding charge for this service.

MALE: $180 – CASTRATION + CLIP TEETH + ANESTHESIA + ANTIBIOTIC AND ANTI-INFLAMMATORY INJECTIONS + ANTI-INFLAMMATORY TO GO HOME

FEMALE: $210 – OVA HYSTERECTOMY + CLIP TEETH + ANESTHESIA + ANTIBIOTIC AND ANTI-INFLAMMATORY INJECTIONS + ANTI-INFLAMMATORY TO GO HOME

(Staff will go over any additional charges beforehand, unless your bunny is in surgery and under anesthesia and treatment is needed during surgery). If your rabbit(s) is in need of a nail trim it is done automatically and at no additional charge to you. 

PRIOR ARRANGED ADDITIONAL OPTIONAL SERVICES:

• RHDV-2 Vaccine Package: $127. RHDV-2 Vaccine (ERAVAC), microchip and documentation for the state are included in this package. We HIGHLY RECOMMEND all rabbits are vaccinated for RHDV-2.

All prices listed below are discounted for today’s visit.

• Comprehensive Parasite Screen: $45. Stool is sent to the laboratory to check for any parasites. Please bring some poop in a small bag.

• Bunny Emergency Kit: $40/50. Kit includes everything listed that is needed except a heating pad. Kit includes a 2oz/4oz organic herbal blend for small pets for foraging activity.

• Metacam: $35. Bottle of pain medication. You will go home with 1 dose to be given the same day. We recommend a bottle.  

• Day Hospitalization: $30. If you must or would like to leave your bunny due to work or other obligations. Pick up is by 4:30pm at the latest.

• Boarding: $25. Drop off your rabbit(s) the day before surgery and pick up the next morning after surgery. Please note you will be charged for hospitalization if you pick up after 11:30am.

• Sanitary Clip: $20/$30. Clean shave your rabbit’s butt area of any mats or poop build up.

• Revolution: $20. Topical antiparasitic for fleas, ticks and certain roundworms. 

• Ear Cleaning: $15. Very gently clean out your rabbit’s ears of any wax or build up of dirt.

-We accept cash, debit and credit card payments. NO CHECKS! NO CARE CREDIT!

-There are restaurants and coffee shops on Old Milton Parkway which is less than 5 minutes away if you prefer to leave and return when your rabbit is ready for pick up. 

-Unfortunately, we are not able to let anyone in the back office to use the restroom. The closest bathroom is in Kroger which is less than a minute away.

Important items to have on hand at home. You do not need to bring these items they are part of the bunny emergency kit. Please call the office with symptoms before use of any medications.
